  1. Call someone. Actually call, not text or DM, but hear their voice and let them hear yours.

  2. Write the ingredients of your last meal on your arm, leg and chest. That way, if the zombies can read, they’ll know what’s in you and can make a wise dietary choice before consuming you.

  3. Don’t dare to fall asleep. Use caffeine, illicits, whatever you can to keep going.

  4. Stop paying your bills or making reasonable and responsible financial choices. Spend and spend and spend and buy and buy and buy.

  5. Figure out your apocalypse outfit. Wear what makes you feel good.

  6. Commit that relatively harmless crime you were always too scared to do. No one cares anymore so you can just steal that thing or run that red light and move on.

  7. Break a heart. Stop being with someone you hate. No one needs misery at the end.

  8. Make a heart beat. Tell that person how you feel about them. Tell them all of it. Even the parts that make you look like a stalker. See #6

  9. Say a prayer or meditate or send out all that love and light everyone always talks about. Who knows, maybe it’ll make a difference.

  10. Stop doing anything practical, like laundry or dish washing. It was never really worth your time anyways.

  11. Dont take your medication. Let your body be your body as it is right now. Let your mind be your mind as it is right now. And let yourself feel all of it.

  12. Look at photos and watch videos of everyone you ever really loved. Look at them over and over again. Let their faces shield your eyes from what’s actually coming.

  13. Travel to a location you don’t mind dying in. Find an open field, lay in your comfortable bed, stand in the middle of a busy city. Be where you want to be.

  14. Don’t make lists. It’s a waste of your time now.

Tania Vincent is a longtime writer just beginning to share her words beyond the pages of her notebook, where she leans into words and their ability to unearth stories and feelings.  Perpetually navigating grad school and teaching by day, she spends the rest of her time with family and friends, taking ironically staged self-portraits, and exploring wherever she can, in her ongoing search for the most interesting place on earth.
